Meet The Owners
ED DEASON
Co-OwnerEd is a native of Asheville, NC and has lived in the Charlotte area for 30 years. His love for cars began when he was a child and faithfully read Road and Track, went to sports car races and worked on repairing or restoring cars. Ed has a deep appreciation for all cars but is especially fond of old European ones. Fortunately, his wife, Christi, likes cars and has supported his many project cars through their 33+ years of marriage. Naturally, both their children are car enthusiasts and the family enjoys attending car shows, sports car races and restoring classic cars. Ed was able to fulfill two of his life-long dreams: owning a shop and being in business with his son, Michael. In 2017 he was able to partner with MIchael and Michael’s childhood friend, Daniel, to buy Autohaus of Union.

MICHAEL DEASON
Co-OwnerMichael is a Charlotte native whose love of cars was fueled by his father and now business partner, Ed Deason. Together they built a track car, competed in local Autocross events, and annually attended the Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta. This passion led him to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a motor sports concentration.
Two weeks after graduating from UNC Charlotte in 2012, Michael married the love of his life, Amanda, then began his career at Honda Research and Development as a design engineer in Marysville, Ohio. After his work on several vehicle development projects such as the 2016 Honda Pilot and the 2016 Acura NSX, they made the move back to their hometown of Matthews, NC. DAN SMITH
Co-Owner/General ManagerDaniel “Dan” Smith was born and raised in Mint Hill NC. Growing up in a car enthusiast family, his car love started at a young age. His dad, Barry, had him turning wrenches on a mustang rebuild at age 12. His passion for cars and mechanics only continued from there. As a high school junior Dan balanced a full class schedule and a mechanic job at his Uncle’s repair shop.
After high school Dan went on to work for Volkswagen of Charlotte for six years where he worked his way up from a main-line technician to a service consultant. Wanting to get out of the dealership grind, Dan went back to where it all started; his Uncle’s repair shop, but this time as the General Manager. As the GM he learned the ins and outs of how to run a successful business; in Dan’s words, “I learned the life lessons of business that you can’t find in a book." After four years with his uncle, the opportunity to buy Autohaus of Union opened up; a life long dream come true. Dan brings a knowledge of cars, a heart to help others, and a passion for Jesus to work with him every day. It’s his (and the entire Autohaus family’s) goal to do business in an honest and uplifting way.
